About DiPP

The Diabetes in Pregnancy Program started with a statistic - Georgia has the highest rate of maternal mortality in the United States AND the United States has the highest incidence of maternal mortality in the developed world. With that in mind DiPP founder, Alicia C. Simpson, got to work brainstorming a plan to provide much-needed healthcare to underserved pregnant parents in Georgia with the lofty goal of kicking Georgia out of its #1 spot as the deadliest state for pregnant parents and improving the health and well being of Georgia residents one family at a time.

Our Mission

Our mission is simple - reverse the epidemic of maternal mortality in Georgia, build healthier families and reduce the barriers to care for underserved parents throughout the state.

How Does DiPP work?

  • Meet & Greet

Your first appointment sets the foundation. In this 1 hour session your DiPP dietitian will learn all about you, your pregnancy, your health needs, your community and your health goals and design a personalized care plan based on your unique lifestyle. No two DiPP care plans are the same as no two pregnancies are the same. We provide custom care for your unique needs

  • Daily Follow Up

DiPP families are never alone on their journey to health. Pregnant parents will keep a detailed food diary and blood sugar log that will be turned in to their DiPP dietitian daily - no need to wait weeks between appointments to get access to the information you need to foster a healthy pregnancy. We are here for you every step of the way.

  • Telehealth

While we do have two offices to serve DiPP patients in metro Atlanta and Decatur the DiPP program is designed to reach every corner of the state. To that end, all consultations are done via telehealth. No broadband? No problem! We can provide consultations via zoom and phone. So, while internet connection would be wonderful if you don’t have it don’t worry. Access to technology will never be a barrier to care with DiPP.

  • Post Partum Care

Delivering a healthy baby to a healthy parent is our #1 goal. However, we wouldn’t lead you this far to stop now! The first months of parenthood can be the toughest and DiPP will continue to stay in touch with you in the first 8 weeks post-partum to help ensure that you start your parenting journey with ease.

  • Lactation Care

DiPP is a Pea Pod Nutrition and Lactation Support initiative. Thanks to this collaboration with Pea Pod we are able to offer every DiPP participant free access to pre-natal lactation classes. Parents who breastfeed lower not only their risk of developing Type II diabetes but also their children’s risk of developing Type II diabetes.

  • Collaboration

Your DiPP dietitian is an important part of your healthcare team but not the only part of your team. Throughout your pregnancy, we will collaborate with your OBGYN, midwife, birthing center, and specialist like Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) and Perinatology Specialist to ensure the highest quality of care
